Operant VS. Classic Conditioning
Operant Conditioning
In the sport of gymnastics reward and punishment is mainly from yourself as a gymnast. The way in which the gymnast chooses to train and act is the way in which they are rewarded or punished.
*Quality over Quantity (repitition)- if the gymnast performs their skills and routines cleanly they are more likely to do less numbers but if their is poor quality more routines/of that skill will have to be done
* Hits - When the gymnast hits their routines in a row then the amount of routines will be less ( for example in a beam practice the numbers might be hit 3 in a row or do 6) The punishment would be doing more routines than other people and not having time for new skills.
* New Skills - when the basics and work load is finished fast and efficiently the gymnasts are rewarded with the chance to work on new skills. If the gymnast fools around or is not efficient with their routines the time for learning new skills will be far and few.
* Self reward/punishment - When the gymnast has less routines, hits in a row, learns a new skill, they get that self accomplishment feeling. But if the gymnast does not practice to win or goofs around in training they have the feeling of disappointment and sadness of not improving or producing in competition.
* Awards - At competition when the gymnast has been consistent in training, their reward is getting a medal or ribbon. But when the gymnast shows inconsistancy in training the gymnast will not place on events or recieve medals.

Classic Conditioning
* Floor Routines - During a floor routine their are music changes, accents, and beats that gymnasts follow along to and do different dance moves, jumps, turns and tumbling, when they hear them.
* Opening up early on a flip or twist usually results in falling or injury
